Keweenaw Brewing Co.

February 7, 2023

Keweenaw Brewing Company is the hops-induced vision of Dick Gray and Paul Boissevain. Dick, a Michigan Tech graduate was looking for a way to return to the Copper Country. Paul, meanwhile was introduced to and seduced by the crystal clear waters of nearby Lake Superior, the beauty of the surrounding area, and the small-town hominess of Houghton, Michigan. The two men, whose passion for beer runs as deep as Superior, are the driving forces behind Keweenaw Brewing Company.
The “KBC” taproom, as it’s referred to by the locals, opened in 2004. The 3400 sq ft facility is located smack in the middle of historic downtown Houghton. It’s rustic barn-wood interior, two bars with fireplace area welcome’s all with cozy, homey comfort. For those who wish to enjoy the great outdoors a 1200 sq ft patio/deck overlooks the Keweenaw waterway and Portage Lake lift bridge.
The 16,000 sq ft production brewery in South Range (located five miles south of Houghton) opened in April of 2007 and houses a 50 barrel JVNW brewhouse. KBC, the first microbrewer to can in Michigan, has distribution across the entire state of Michigan, northern Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota.
Keweenaw distributes six flagship and nine seasonal styles. Flagship styles include Pickaxe Blonde Ale, Red Jacket Amber Ale, Widow Maker Black Ale, November Gale Pale Ale, Point Trail Rye IPA and Red Ridge Blood Orange Ale. Seasonal styles include Borealis Broo (coffee infused), Level 92 Black IPA, UP Wit Bier, Wequetong Cherry Wheat, Hefe Royale, Early Autumn (Octoberfest) Ale, Olde Ore Dock Scottish Ale, Life Bridge Brown Ale and High Rock Seltzers……
